Celebrating the Life of
February 21, 1952 — August 6, 2024
Bonnie Lu Straub, a vibrant spirit and devoted family member, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2024, in Winter Park, Florida, at the age of 72. Born on February 21, 1952, in Newton, Iowa, she was the beloved daughter of the late Bonnie Sibert Hardenbrook and Walter A. Hardenbrook.
Bonnie's life was a testament to boundless love and zest. She was a treasured mother to Derric Clark (Jen) of Mesa, Arizona; Christopher Clark (Arlene) of Daytona Beach, Florida; and Tarah Davis-Mock (SteveO) of Casselberry, Florida, and a doting wife to John Straub. She was preceded in death by her cherished son, Ryan Clark (Tracy), who passed away in 2021. Bonnie's heart overflowed with pride for her grandchildren: Kydah, Ivy, Joe, Nathan, Noah, Taylor, Bailey, Syler, Alexander, and Dominic.
As a sister, Bonnie was a pillar of strength and affection to her sisters; Rosa Lee, Shirley (Leroy), and Connie (Larry). Though she was preceded in death by her siblings Meta Ann, Jerry, Ricky, and Roger, she is lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews: Joellen (Mark) of Newton, Iowa; Aaron (Alicia) of Newton, Iowa; Matt (Amber) of Oskaloosa, Iowa; and Kerri (Andrew) of Fremont, Iowa, and many more who knew her affectionately as “Aunt Bonnie”.
Bonnie’s passion for life was evident from a young age. A proud graduate of Newton Senior High School in 1970, she channeled her love for dance into a remarkable career starting in 1972. Co-founding a dance studio in Oskaloosa with her sister Connie, Bonnie’s grace and dedication inspired many. Her vibrant career also included years in fast food management and most recently, she was known for her spirited work at Circle K.
An avid Harley enthusiast, Bonnie roared through life on her 2016 Harley Sportster, leading the pack with her trademark enthusiasm. She was a fierce member of the Harley Owners Group, sharing countless joyful rides with her friends. Bonnie’s love for cruising extended to the high seas, where she treasured every moment spent with family and friends. As a dedicated Steelers fan, she spent many Sundays passionately cheering on her favorite team. Her infectious laughter, warm spirit, and unyielding defense of her loved ones—often prefaced by a spirited “Oh Hell No!”—made her a beloved figure in every circle she touched.
In lieu of flowers, Bonnie would have preferred expressions of support for her family in any way you choose. Special thanks are extended to the caregivers and friends whose kindness and compassion provided solace during Bonnie’s final days.
Bonnie’s legacy of love, laughter, and unshakable dedication will be forever cherished by all who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will continue to bring joy and inspiration to her family and friends.
