Celebrating the Life of
April 20, 1962 — December 17, 2023
Allen “Al” Lee Lopez of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at age 61.
Al was born in Pueblo, Colorado, on April 20, 1962, to Lee and Dora Lopez. A talented and hard-working electrical engineer for nearly 30 years, he was the first in his family to graduate from college – obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado, Denver in 1994. Throughout his career, Al’s determination and natural leadership led to many exciting opportunities – traveling the world, building new friendships, and inspiring others around him.
While he had much to be proud of professionally, Al’s family was everything to him – he was a devoted husband, dad, and grandpa. Whether vacationing with his wife, dancing to live music, or coaching his daughters in basketball throughout their childhood, Al was happiest with those he loved most. With a true passion for the game, Al coached and played basketball for most of his life – beginning as a child with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Denver through countless adult leagues with his life-long friends. An avid sports fan all around, he followed golf, lacrosse, baseball, basketball, and football at both the collegiate and professional levels. Al enjoyed warm weather, country music, and classic rock – typically found singing Keith Urban, George Strait, Elton John, or the Eagles.
Al is survived by his wife, Diane Lopez; two daughters, Amanda Robichaud and Mikayla “Scooter” Lopez; and two grandchildren, Ava and Hudson Robichaud. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Lucero, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Al was predeceased by his parents and sister, Betty Cortez.
With a brilliant spirit, Al’s radiant smile, infectious laugh, and compassionate heart captivated everyone who knew him. He loved and valued his family and friends deeply – and he will forever be missed.

Your love for my Ava girl was unmatched. Forever “the SMASH.” We love you forever. ❤️❤️
Al was one of my favorite fellow engineers. I was so saddened when I heard of his passing. Peace to Diane and the girls.
