**Celebrating the Life of Alfred Mark**
**October 20, 1946 - May 24, 2026**
Alfred Mark was born on October 20, 1946, in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago, to Augustus and Lucy Mark. Raised among family, faith, culture, and the rhythms of Trinidadian life, Alfred carried his roots with him wherever he went. He was one of eight children, sharing life with his sisters, Gemma Smart and Ann Renaud, and his brothers, Elisha Mark & Daniel Mark. His sister Bernandine died while young, and his half-brothers Andrew Mark and Fitzroy Mark lived abroad.
In 1973, Alfred immigrated to America, beginning a new chapter of life with courage, determination, and a willingness to work hard. He first began his career in manufacturing in New Jersey before eventually settling in Texas, where he continued building a life rooted in faith, family, discipline, and service.
Alfred lived a life marked by quiet strength, steady faith, and skillful hands. A hardworking carpenter and entrepreneur, he spent many years running his own custom carpentry business. To those who knew him, Alfred was the kind of man who could fix or make almost anything. His work reflected patience, precision, discipline, and pride. Whether he was building something with his hands or helping someone in need, he gave generously of his time and talents.
Later in life, after giving his life to Christ in his 40s, his relationship with God became one of the defining commitments of his life. In 1996, Alfred became a member of Fondren Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he faithfully served for many years. He served as a dedicated Deacon, contributed to the building committee, and used his gifts in building maintenance to care for the house of God. His faith was not something he kept hidden. Alfred read his Bible daily, spoke openly about his love for God, and invited everyone he could to church.
Alfred was a protector, a provider, and a dependable presence. He did not need to say much for his presence to be felt. Those who knew him will remember the smile he gave when he greeted you, the calmness he carried, and the way his love showed up through action. He was quiet by nature, but he loved talking on the phone with family and friends. And when he loved you, he did not hold it back. He made sure the people close to him knew it.
Alfred was a dedicated husband to his beloved wife, Betty Smith Mark, with whom he shared 44 years of marriage. From his first marriage, Alfred was blessed with three children: Titus, Paul, and Jennifer. Together, Alfred and Betty welcomed their son, Johnathan. He was a wise father, a gentle grandfather, a caring brother, uncle, and dependable friend. To his grandchildren, he was especially tender. His quiet nature softened even more around them, and his love could be felt in the way he listened, smiled, and showed up.
Alfred also had a deep love for the simple joys of life. He enjoyed cheering for the Houston Rockets, listening to Soca and Calypso music, eating Caribbean food, and telling stories about Trinidad and his early days as a young man coming to America. He took pride in keeping his home clean, sticking to his routines, caring for his health, and beginning his days with exercise. A practicing vegetarian, he believed in taking supplements, staying active, and, to the joy of those who knew him well, eating mango by the ton.
Alfred’s life was a testimony of faith, discipline, service, and love. He taught his family that a man does not have to be loud to be strong. He showed that love can be steady, faith can be lived daily, and a life of service can leave a legacy that continues long after a person is gone.
Alfred was preceded in death by his father, Augustus Mark; his mother, Lucy Mark; his sisters, Gemma Smart and Bernadine Mark; and his brother, Elisha Mark.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Betty Smith Mark; his sons, Titus, Paul, and Johnathan; his daughter, Jennifer; his six grandchildren; his siblings, Ann Renaud, Daniel Mark, Andrew Mark, and Fitzroy Mark; his nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family members, church family, and friends who were blessed by his life.
A memorial service celebrating the life and legacy of Alfred Mark will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Fondren Seventh-day Adventist Church, 7950 W Fuqua Street, Houston, Texas. A repast will follow and livestream information will be provided.
